How about this for loveliest mail of the year. This in from the very lovely Berni has this to say:
I wonder could you give a mention on the SodShow to a (very inspiring!) project I am trying to set up for this Autumn with our group – WeShare Dublin. I have called it the Falling Fruit Project (this exists in other countries) and the idea is to find and harvest the seasonal glut of local unpicked fruit (apples, pears, plums, nuts, etc.) throughout the Dublin area and to give to charities that cater for those in need, or to other good causes. Each year hundreds of fruit trees go unpicked. ‘Falling Fruit’ organises a team of volunteers who can pick the fruit and distribute it to local charities or other good causes. We will liaise with Foodcloud.ie for distribution of the fruit.
This is a new project for Dublin (to the best of my knowledge) so it is a bit of a struggle to get it off the ground. I am writing to gardening groups, community gardens, and radio stations in the hope of getting some help or support in finding abundant sources of fruit. Maybe your listeners would know of orchards or gardens in or around Dublin, where the fruit goes unpicked. I would be very grateful for any help. Would you have any advice?
This is where I got the idea:
Thank you for reading. I hope to hear from you.
Bernie my dearest, I’ll give you a call just as soon as I press publish.
Big smile on my happy head. All thanks to you,
